Keying Options & Key Code Lookup

Every LEER truck cap lock replacement ships with a factory key code stamped on the cylinder face—typically a four-digit number like 1234 or 5678. If you’ve lost your original keys, locate the existing lock cylinder on your cap and note this code before ordering. We’ll match it so your new lock uses the same key as your tailgate or other LEER accessories.

For caps installed before 2010, some key codes may no longer be available in our standard inventory. In those cases, we offer rekeying services where our technicians match your existing cylinder to a current production key code. Send us your old lock cylinder, and we’ll return a matched replacement within 5-7 business days.

Installation Process & Tools Required

Replacing a LEER lock cylinder requires removing the interior trim panel to access the mounting screws. Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the lock housing to the cap frame. Disconnect the cam arm from the latch rod by rotating it 90 degrees counterclockwise—this releases tension without bending the linkage.

Slide the new lock assembly into the existing cutout, ensuring the gasket sits flush against the exterior surface. Reconnect the cam arm to the latch rod, then hand-tighten the mounting screws before testing the key action. Once confirmed, torque screws to 18 inch-pounds to prevent loosening during highway vibration.

Styling

Compatibility Across LEER Model Lines

Our lock assemblies fit all LEER 100-series caps manufactured since 1995, including the 100R, 100RCC, 100XR, 100XQ, and 100XL. The same housing dimensions carry over to LEER’s Xceed and DCC Premium models, though those use a slightly longer cam arm for their multi-point latching systems.

For LEER 180 and Raider series caps, confirm your model year before ordering—caps built before 2008 use a legacy cylinder design with a different thread pitch. We stock both versions, but they are not interchangeable. Check the interior label on your cap’s front bulkhead for the manufacture date and model code.

Perfect drop-in replacement for my 100XR
I lost my keys on a camping trip and needed a leer truck cap lock replacement fast. This arrived in three days, keyed to my original code. Installation took me about 10 minutes, and it works smoother than the lock I had for eight years.

Finally stops the water leak
My old lock's gasket was shot, and water kept pooling inside every time it rained. This new assembly came with a fresh gasket that sealed perfectly. No more wet gear in the back of my truck.

Key code match saved me a rekey
I was worried I'd have to rekey my whole truck, but ARE looked up my original key code and sent the exact match. Now one key operates my tailgate, toolbox, and truck cap. Exactly what I needed.

Solid build but tight fit on older caps
The lock works great, but the mounting holes on my 2003 100R were slightly off. I had to file the bracket about a millimeter to get it flush. Once fitted, though, it's been perfect for six months of daily use.

Weather sealing is legit
I drive through car washes weekly, and this lock hasn't let a single drop inside. The gasket material feels way better than the dried-out one I replaced. Worth every penny for the peace of mind.

Customer service helped with my model year
I wasn't sure if this would fit my older Raider cap, so I called. They confirmed I needed the legacy version and shipped it same day. Installed perfectly, and the key action is smoother than my truck's ignition.

Good to know

Common Questions About LEER Lock Replacement

Yes, if you provide your original key code when ordering. Every LEER lock cylinder has a four-digit code stamped on the face. We match that code so your new lock uses the same key as your current setup.

If you've lost your keys and don't know the code, you can send us your old cylinder. We'll identify the code and ship a matched replacement, usually within one week.

Check the white label on the interior front bulkhead of your truck cap, near the cab window. It lists the model name, manufacture date, and a nine-digit serial number.

For caps built before 2008, also note the year—some older 180 and Raider models require a different cylinder thread pitch. Our product page has a compatibility chart, or you can call us with your serial number for confirmation.

Yes. Our LEER Premium Lock uses the same mounting footprint and screw pattern as standard locks, so it's a direct swap. The premium version adds hardened steel pins and a drill-resistant sleeve for higher security.

If you want a flush-mount T-handle, that requires enlarging the door cutout slightly—it's still a DIY job, but you'll need a rotary tool and our installation template.

You'll need a Phillips #2 screwdriver and about 15 minutes. Remove the interior trim panel, unscrew the old lock housing, disconnect the cam arm from the latch rod, then reverse the process with the new lock.

A torque screwdriver set to 18 inch-pounds helps ensure the mounting screws don't loosen over time, but hand-tightening works if you don't over-torque them.

Apply graphite-based dry lubricant to the key slot and cam pivot every six months, or whenever you notice the key turning harder than usual. Avoid WD-40 or oil-based sprays—they attract dirt that gums up the pin tumblers.

In coastal or winter climates, increase to quarterly lubrication to prevent salt corrosion and ice buildup inside the cylinder.

LEER's limited lifetime warranty covers cylinder defects, cam wear, and housing corrosion for the original purchaser. Damage from forced entry, improper installation, or commercial use is excluded.

If your lock fails under warranty, contact us with your purchase receipt and model number. We'll ship a replacement at no charge, usually within 3-5 business days.

No—LEER lock cylinders use a different key blank than automotive ignition systems. However, you can order multiple LEER accessories keyed alike so one key operates your truck cap, toolbox, and tailgate lock.

When ordering, request keyed-alike service and provide the key code from your existing LEER lock. We'll match all new locks to that code at no extra charge.
